One look at this Virgil Ortiz Mano pottery figure, and you can see just why Virgil's work is incredibly sought after. A man of many talents, Virgil Ortiz, got his start in pottery. Works of pottery like this one are his contemporary version of historic Cochiti figures. This one almost looks like a circus performer of old with his moustache, big lips, striped body suit, and boots. The figure is traditionally made of Native clay and painted with natural materials. The black paint is actually wild spinach, a plant that is boiled to a thick tar-like consistency. Virgil Ortiz is such a star in the art world, that it quite difficult to obtain his pottery. He makes a very limited number each year. Therefore, we're thrilled to be able to offer you this one, and on sale at that. It stands 16 3/4" high, and it is signed "Virgil Ortiz Cochiti Pueblo".
