This smaller Mimbres design jar by exceptional Hopi potter Steve Lucas shows a bold use of natural red slip. Traditionally fired at Hopi, the piece is painted with a strong image. Unfortunately, Steve Lucas is not working very much these days, so it is quite a deal to get this piece below the 1999 retail of $2800. The vessel has a 5" diameter, and it is signed "S. Lucas" on the bottom with two etched designs.
