Here is a large thunderbird pendant from Depression era Santo Domingo Pueblo. Like the so-called Depression era thunderbird necklaces, this pendant was handmade in a time when money and materials were scarce. Therefore, Santo Domingo artists used found objects to create their inlay jewelry. The black background of this pendant is, most likely, made from old battery casings or phonograph records. The colored material could be old plastic spoons and/or toothbrushes along with other plastic materials. The pendant measures 2 3/4" long x 1 3/4" width. It is unsigned by an unknown artist.
