Santo Domingo Chile Bowl by Ernestine Calabaza Aguilar

M5864

Here is a really neat Santo Domingo pottery bowl. This one was not originally made to be collected. It was made and used as a chile bowl by Ernestine Calabaza Aguilar, wife of the famous jeweler Tony Aguilar. The bowl has Ernestine's initials painted in big letters, "E.C.A." meaning she, most likely, would bring this bowl over to the homes of other people in the Pueblo with chile in it. The initials would insure that it would be returned to her. It is a handmade polished redware base with a classic Santo Domingo design painted on it. It's being offered at a very special price of only $150 - amazing for an authentic piece of Pueblo culture. The bowl measures 8" width x 3 1/2" height.
