This redware jar from San Ildefonso has a strong provenance as Jonathan Batkin, a well-known authority on historic pueblo pottery has identified it. Hand coiled and traditionally fired, the jar has been painted with two different red slips, an orange-red covering the body and a deeper red band on the lower shoulder. The jar has a distinctive symmetrical form, which from the research of Jonathan Batkin, indicates that the maker was very likely Dominguita Pino of San Ildefonso Pueblo. The jar dates ca 1900-1910. It measures 12 1/2" high x 9 1/8" high. It was purchased in 1996 for $9500, and it is priced well below that retail.
