No contemporary pueblo pottery collection would be complete without the work of San Ildefonso potter Russel Sanchez. Most noticeable about this Russel Sanchez jar is the unique green color that comes from a natural mineral pigment. It looks so lovely contrasted against the light sparkle of the micaceous clay. The multifaceted jar is decorated with a large bear on the removable lid as well as two strands of heishi perfectly fitted onto the rim of the pot. An avanyu (or water serpent) with a turquoise eye complete the handmade, traditionally fired vessel. The jar was purchased in May of 2005 for $6800, so it is below retail at $4200. It is signed "Russel Sanchez" and it measures 7" diameter x 6 3/4" height including the lid.
