Pueblo Necklace of Coral & Turquoise

M5705

In our coral presentation, we're trying to demonstrate the variety that existed in necklaces even of the same coral material.  This very short Pueblo choker necklace is of natural red Mediterranean coral & natural Persian turquoise.  The red coral beads are quite chunky, and they're interspersed with sanded and shaped chunky turquoise beads. Originally, the famous Zuni jeweler, Leekya Deyuse was one of the first to combine this type of larger turquoise and coral chunks.  We are dating this piece ca. 1950.  The necklace is strung on cotton cord, and it has an old silver hook and eye closure.  The choker is for very small necks at 7" in length or 14" from end to end. This came from the estate of Tony Aguilar and is now part of our summertime steals.
