Outstanding Zuni Shell Katsina Pin

X4618

This large katsina pin on shell is one of the most outstanding pieces in our entire Zuni Celebration. In fact, it is one of the best Zuni spondylus shell pins that we have ever seen! Truly museum quality, this pin harkens back to Pre-Columbian techniques of mosaic inlay on shell, but it is true perfection in its bold katsina design of flawless inlay (shell, turquoise, and jet) bordered by spondylus shell and gorgeous silverwork. It dates circa 1935, and to emphasize the difficulty of attribution, some experts have indicated that it is Leo Poblano and others have claimed that it is Lambert Homer. Fact of the matter is, we just don't know. What we do know is that it is almost unparalleled in is excellence. This piece measures 3 1/4" long x 3 1/8" wide, more for admiring than wearing.
