Here is a 10 strand necklace of old orange Mediterranean coral. Like our 7 strand necklace, this one has had strands added to it as the original owner acquired more coral wealth. For this reason, not all strands have exactly the same size coral tubes. When the owner wanted to finish off a strand, they added little coral beads at the top that are not tubular. The coral is also interspersed with little natural turquoise beads. The necklace hangs 15 1/2" long. It is not signed, and we are dating it ca. 1930.This 7 strand coral necklace is a great piece of history. Made of natural orange Mediterranean coral, it is clear that this piece was put together over time as the original wearer added to their "wealth" in coral. This is because the strands of coral are irregularly shaped, some are beads and some are short tubes. Interspersed between the coral are beads of natural green turquoise. (Green because the necklace has been worn a lot and the turquoise has changed colors over time.) The coral is tied together by a very old wrap of natural cotton strips. We are dating the piece ca. 1920. The necklace hangs 14" long, and it is, of course, unsigned.
Sorry, this piece has sold.
