Even in American Indian jewelry, the old adage is true - they just don't always make them like they used to! It is certainly true for this old, single strand necklace of turquoise interspersed with graduated shell heishi. It comes from Santo Domingo Pueblo and is from an estate of older American Indian jewelry. The nice turquoise is a definite blue/green color. The necklace closes with an old hook and eye closure. Strung on old string, the piece is still very secure and has a nice heavy weight to it. It measures 19" from end to end. It is entirely handmade, and we do not know the maker as it is unsigned.
