Old Navajo Button Set Evetts Collection

M4216

These are truly incredible old 1920's Navajo buttons or dress ornaments. They come directly from the collection of Jay Evetts, a dealer in antique American Indian art who is best-known for assembling one of the finest collections of Indian art in his field. He's particularly known for the fine buttons he acquired. Three of these silver conical buttons are perfectly matched except for the center natural turquoise stones that have changed to different colors over time. An additional conical silver button is just a little bit different in the pattern of stampwork and the larger center turquoise. They all have brass sew loops on the back. These buttons would have been worn by Navajo men or women sewn on their clothing or bags as beautiful jewelry ornaments. You can wear them to decorate just about anything or you can have them mounted and keep them on display as the beautiful historic pieces that they are. Due to the early handmade nature, each button is just a little bit different, but their diameter is about 1 1/8". They are, of course, unsigned.
