This is a fine Navajo bow guard (Ketoh). It makes such a stunning bold bracelet! A bowguard or Ketoh (pronounced "gato") was originally created by the Navajo as a form of wrist protection when hunting. The ketoh kept a bow string from hitting against the wrist when an arrow was shot from the bow. This one has such brilliant turquoise, the center stone even has an old drilled hole adding to the special character of the piece. The silver face features handmade repousse and stamping. This particular bowguard is quite old and authentic - it dates ca 1920. It looks to be on the original leather band and is tied with a strap. The circumference of the leather is 8 3/4", but you can adjust the leather if need be. The silver portion of the piece measures 3 1/2"H x 3"W.
