This old necklace of handmade graduated silver beads is beautiful in its own right but its significance lies in its original owner. It came to us from the estate of Marie Chabot, who prior to her death was named a "Living Treasure" of Santa Fe. Marie Chabot actually began the Indian Markets in Santa Fe's Plaza in the 1930's. A huge supporter of American Indian art, Chabot was also a friend and associate of Georgia O'Keefffe. In fact, Chabot is the person who took the famous photo of O'Keefe on the motorcycle entitled "Woman Who Rode Away." How amazing to own a piece originally belonging to such a Santa Fe icon. The necklace hangs 9 3/4" The largest bead is 1" diameter while the smallest is 1/4". It closes with a heavy hook and eye. It is unsigned.
