This miniature black on black plate with a deer finely etched in the center is the work of Santa Clara artist Kevin Naranjo. Kevin Naranjo is an award-winning potter who works in traditional methods - gathering Native clay, hand-coiling it, stone polishing and then pit-firing his vessels. After firing, he etches dramatic scenes onto his pottery. This plate measures 2" in diameter, and it is signed "Kevin Naranjo Santa Clara" on the reverse. From a private collection, the piece dates circa 1990's and has only the slightest sign of any wear.
