Jake Koopee Eagle Style Jar

X4476

Here is Jake Koopee's classic Nampeyo eagle style polychrome jar. What a tribute to Jake's great-great grandmother, Nampeyo of Hano. Notice how graceful Jake's swirls are - swirls like that come only from the hands of the most skilled painters. Interestingly, the jar's opening is framed in a beautiful natural red pigment that has been mixed with mica to create a little sparkle. The inside of the jar has the same red pigment combined with mica. Beyond the jar's red frame is Jake's framing line, a series of 8 parallel lines that are perfectly painted in a square shape. Jake says that these lines are the most difficult portion of all to paint on a pot. He calls them "lifelines" and says the more of them a person paints, the longer their life will be. The piece is signed "Koopee 2010" and it has a flute player symbol representing Jake's flute clan. On the bottom of the piece is a small fire blush indicating that the piece was hand fired.  Marti describes this piece in detail in a special video of the Jake Koopee Eagle Jar.
