Ida Sahmie is an award winning Navajo potter who married a Hopi man and therefore creates pottery that is hand-coiled and fired in the traditional Hopi style but with unmistakably Navajo designs. This polychrome jar of Ida Sahmie's is outstanding. Tall, thin walls display four detailed Yei figures dancing - one in each of the four directions. The Jar comes from a private collection, and it dates from 1996. It is signed "Ida Sahmie, 1996, Navajo". It measures 8 1/4" high x 6 1/2" wide.
