Historic Cochiti Pottery Animal

X4742

This incredible historic pottery animal effigy from Cochiti has a wonderful provenance. Most likely a bull, the polychrome piece is in perfect condition, which is rare. He has his handle, horns, ears, and even his little tail intact with no restoration. The piece was originally collected in 1900 by a man from Ohio who manufactured bricks. He traveled to the Southwest in 1900, and purchased some Cochiti pieces, which he brought back to Ohio. The pieces were then proudly displayed in the county courthouse in his Ohio hometown. How neat! This bull is quite large (and fat) as it measures 11" long x 11 1/2" high and 7 1/2" wide. It is, of course, unsigned. This piece is being offered at a very special price that is $3000 off of the retail paid when it was last collected.

Sorry, this piece has sold.
