This is a very well-made historic Navajo buckle of ingot silver. It has the most exquisite hand-stamping and repousse work. Notice the arrow stamp on either side of the hand-forged prong. We don't know the maker, but he was obviously a master of silver work. The two domed turquoise pieces set in the buckle are natural and, most likely, Persian turquoise. Don Lorenzo Hubbell of Hubbell's Trading Post loved to use Persian turquoise, so this could very well be from that era. We are dating this piece from 1900-1920. It measures 3" x 2 1/2". It would fit about a 3/4" leather belt end. Part of our summertime steals.
