One of a trio of Pueblo warriors that together won the judges choice at Heard Market 2011. This one is a female Cochiti warrior and is by esteemed contemporary potters Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano. Lisa Holt, of Cochiti Pueblo, forms the pottery by hand while her husband, Harlan Reano, of Santo Domingo Pueblo, paints the designs. They use traditional methods like hand digging their clays from the earth, wood firing and natural paint pigments like wild spinach for the black. The painting on the warrior is expert with her revealing fishnet bodysuit and mask, but add to it the movement of her stance with hands on her hips, head thrust back and one foot stepping forward - you've got nothing short of phenomenal. This is the reason that Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano have won numerous awards and have work displayed in the National Museum of the American Indian. The black and cream warrior comes on a custom made, museum quality mount so that she can stand perfectly. She stands 14" tall x 5 1/2" wide plus a 1/2" stand. Signed "Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano".
