Navajo medicine man turned folk artist, Charlie Willeto, is well-loved for his carved wooden figures, which he initially created to trade for groceries at the Mauzy Trading Post. Having only carved an estimated 400 figures before his 1964 death, Charlie's pieces are quite rare and special. This one is his Buffalo (Totonka) Spirit Man. The large carving measures 17" tall x 3" wide with a depth of 2 1/2". It is unsigned but unmistakably Charlie Willeto.
