A four-color pottery olla from Acoma with 4 birds surrounded by flower, leaf, and geometric designs. ca 1890-1900. It is believed by some that the bird imagery emerged from a folk art tradition of Eastern painted tole work and ceramics. There is a wonderful warmth to this particular jar. No Restoration. It has an unusual shape with an indentation around its middle section that is painted with a continuous black framing line. Ex Richard Howard collection. Richard Howard was a well-known collector of fine Southwestern Pueblo pottery. Approximately 11" diameter x 10" high.
