This piece in our jewelry estate sale is a wonderful representation of an old Santo Domingo inlaid shell necklace. It dates from the 1950's and is by Martin Aguilar. Though unsigned, it came directly from the family collection. The necklace is intricately made of spondylus shell overlaid with a pattern of cut turquoise segments with a shell and jet border. The shell is strung on a delicate necklace of finely cut shell and turquoise beads. The piece measures 12" long. The shell is 2 1/4" wide x 2 3/8" tall.
