This black jar with incised sgrafitto sunface and bear is by Candelaria Suazo of Santa Clara Pueblo. Suazo makes her pottery in the traditional way - she obtains her clay from the earth near Santa Clara, and she hand coils all her pots. Once her pots are dried, she hand polishes each using a polishing stone and red slip. Then, she fires her pottery outdoors using cow dung and horse manure. This piece measures 4" diameter x 3" tall. Signed on the reverse, it's from an collector's estate. You'll enjoy special pricing on this in our Fall into Fall sale.
